Scrumptious, Delicious Cinnamon Crisps

Do you remember cinnamon crisps?

When I was little, I loved watching my Mom make a pie.  Not because she was so entertaining or because I loved pie.  No, sir.

I loved what she did with the leftover pie crust.  She would roll it out, cut it into small pieces, and sprinkle the pieces with cinnamon sugar.

Then she baked them for us.

These little cinnamon piecrust morsels were far better than the pie itself.  At least in my mind.

Making Memories in the Kitchen

Does the smell of cinnamon bring back memories for you?

Did you bake with your Grandmother or Mom when you were young?

Do you know that your sense of smell, when paired with an activity, will stimulate and enhance your memory?

Here's an article about that: How to Make Childhood Memories That Last a Lifetime.

And this is an easy recipe for kids to make!

Cinnamon crisps ingredients

These cinnamon crisps are made with tortillas instead of pie crust.

But, if you're making a pie, you can use pie crust just like we did "back in the day".

When making these with kids, it might be easier to cut the tortillas into smaller pieces first.

Here we go.

Melt butter on a plate.

Dip the tortilla or tortilla pieces in the butter.

Or you can use a pastry brush and brush the butter onto the tortilla.

    1. @Mary Hanson,
I think when you deep fry them then they are bunuelos
When fried they puff up and you fill with honey anyways that’s what gramma did

  1. When you shared how your mother made ‘crisps’, so did mine. Yup, liked way better than the pie!

  2. I’ve made a version of this before. But we didn’t use the tortilla whole. We cut them into 1/4 pieces so they were easier to work with. Then also sprayed each side with cooking spray instead. Worked great! Great side to a fruit/dip tray.

  3. I have added marshmallows and pecans to this recipe and it is so good.

  4. I made them using a low carb keto tortilla and monk fruit sweetener and cinnamon. Really good and a nice snack addition to those following a Keto or low carb diet. Thank you for the idea.

  5. My Mom took the pie crust scraps and made mini cinnamon rolls for me. I didn’t like pie. Thanks for reminding me and for your idea!

    1. @Angie, that's why this world has gone nuts...people have forgotten to be kind. It's something you give for free. I've made this before. So good

    1. @Julie, a Google search for ‘how to make cinnamon sugar’ shows:

The perfect ratio, mix 1/2 cup of regular granulated sugar and 2 table spoons of cinnamon in a bowl and whisk until there are no lumps. Leftovers can be stored in a glass jar; another search will show how long it is good to store for. Here’s the website I got the above info from.
      God bless you.

  6. Yep, my mom always used the left over pie crust with cinn and sugar and baked - so good. I do the same
